Meeting Preview:
The Brisca V8 Hotstox return to Buxton raceway on the 24th and 25th August for their final appearance of 2025 at the popular venue! There is lots on offer for the drivers of the Hotstox over the weekend with Sunday 24th seeing the running of the Buxton Gold Cup (currently held by Matthew Young #376) and Monday 25th seeing the 2025 running of the Under 25s Championship (currently held by Gilen Bullock #10).
The Hotstox were last in Buxton in June when the drivers arrived for a weekend of action that would see World Championship qualifying points, the Dave Atkinson memorial trophy and the 2025 British Championship up for grabs. National Points champion Jon Brown (#288) was back to winning ways when he took victory in the opening race of the weekend. Heat 2 of Saturday’s meeting saw a first ever Hotstox win for young white grader Ruby Lomax (#369) as she held off the in-form tarmac ace Sophie Maynard (#154) on the last bend of the race. A first time heat winner in the formula was followed by a first time final winner as another of the formula’s younger drivers Elliot Fletcher (#282) won the Dave Atkinson memorial trophy in his first meeting from the blue grade.
Saturday’s Grand National was won by Gracie Squire (#29). Sunday’s meeting saw the arrival of Timmy Aldridge (#257) who had not raced on the Saturday. Incredibly, Timmy would win all three qualifying heats before the British Championship final itself. Timmy’s achievement is even more impressive when considering the heavy damage the car had suffered when Timmy collected the Great Yarmouth fence just one week before. Buxton is a popular venue for the drivers of the Hotstox formula and is highly significant in the history of the formula with many memorable (and controversial!) Hotstox moments taking place at Buxton.
As such, the Buxton Gold Cup is held in high regard and the drivers will be chasing hard to win it. The Bullock family and Oak Mechanical Ltd have kindly sponsored the Under 25s championship and the trophies for the podium finishers. With two of the top young drivers in the formula within the family the title is important to them. 2025 has been an excellent year for the new, young drivers in the formula and there is a plethora of young talent and future stars in the Hotstox.
The formula’s last visit to Buxton saw wins for young drivers Ruby Lomax, Elliot Fletcher and Gracie Squire. Former World Champion Thomas Brighton #329 and former National Points Champion Evan Bullock (#110) are also eligible for the under 25s championship.
The championship is difficult to predict and is likely to be one of the most unpredictable championship titles of the 2025 Hotstox season. Good luck to all of the younger drivers of the formula who take centre stage on Monday 25th!
