The busy summer for the Brisca V8 Hotstox continues when the formula visits Skegness stadium on August 6th and Northampton Shaleway on August 8th for the eagerly anticipated return to shale for the Hotstox. With both meetings being World Championship qualifiers, these meetings provide a massive opportunity for the drivers to strengthen their chances of taking the gold at Skegness on October 10th.

The talking point of the week will perhaps be the return to shale for the first time since April when the Hotstox visit Northampton on August 8th. The 2026 Hotstox season began at Northampton in March. It was shale specialist Mark Poole (#276) who stormed to the first victory of the season. With no white graders starting ahead, yellow grader Mark was able to use his experience on shale to control the race and take the chequered flag. Another shale specialist Paul Prest (#491) took victory in the second race of the evening. Paul’s screaming V8 engine powered him to victory. The final was won by Michael Boswell (#328) who had to work hard for his victory following a mid race stoppage due to the stranded car of Ben Allen (#477) on the back straight. Boswell held his nerve and pulled away as rivals Tom Dunne (#171), Mike Lomax (#269), Guy Jolly (#222) and Thomas Brighton (#329) scrapped for podium positions behind him. Lomax and Brighton completed the podium with Brighton going on to win the Grand National.

The Northampton meeting will be a welcome break from tarmac for those who prefer the loose shale surface. Guy Jolly (#222) will be keen to get back on the Northampton shale and he will be aiming to score a good number of World Championship qualifying points. With three shale meetings taking place in August and September, including the Hotstox European Championship taking place at Northampton on September 27th, shale specialists such as Guy will be hoping for a good run of form.

Another of the formula’s senior drivers, Bryan Andrew (#355), will also be hoping for some good luck at Northamptopn. The Hotstox veteran had a dreadful start to his season and didn’t manage to finish a single race in the season opener at Northampton due to engine problems. Investigations into the issues with the engine of Bryan’s shale car led to the discovery of carburettor related problems, Bryan will hope that his problems have been solved and the shale car can carry him to similar form to the form he has shown on tarmac this year.

It looks set to be another superb week of racing for the Brisca V8 Hotstox in 2026
