The Border Supplies sponsored Brisca V8 Hotstox European Championship is on the line as the Hotstox join the action on the massive weekend of stock car racing at Northampton Shaleway on September 27th!

The Hotstox were last at the venue on August 8th for an evening in the Northamptonshire sunshine. The first heat was won by Thomas Dunne (#171) whose superb form on both shale and tarmac this season has seen him rise rapidly through the grades. Frankie Burgess (#159) continued his excellent start to August by taking the chequered flag in the second heat of the evening. The meeting final produced arguably the best race of the night with plenty of bumper work and the rivalry between World Champion Thomas Brighton (#329) and Evan Bullock (#110) bubbling over once again and providing some superb action. Dan Poole (#296) was the victor in his tarmac car, the same car that he had sadly had to load up at Skegness before completing a lap two days earlier due to mechanical difficulties. Interestingly, the top five cars in the meeting final on the shale of Northampton on August 8th were all on track on the tarmac of Skegness on the previous Thursday. Popular driver Guy Jolly (#222) secured his first win of the season in the Grand National.

Anything can happen when a major title is on the line in the Hotstox formula and there will be plenty of drivers hungry for the European title when the green flag drops. The drivers will earn points in the heat races to try and give themselves the best starting position in their grades for the graded order start of the European Championship race. Shane Geary (#478) drove superbly at the last shale Hotstox meeting at Mildenhall and claimed the Brian Jolly memorial trophy. If lower grader Shane can get away from the pack in the early stages of the final then the drivers behind him will have their work cut out to catch up.

“The Flying Meerkat” Guy Jolly (#222) will fancy his chances of success on the Northampton shale and would be a popular winner, he’ll have to show some real aggression if he wants to win the yellow and red chequered roof. Alongside Guy towards the back of the grid will be Matt Barnard (#69) who is never afraid to get stuck into the action, Matt’s controlled aggression could be the key to a successful afternoon. Youngster Charlie Portman (#528) has grown with confidence throughout the 2026 season and if he can navigate through the traffic he could be in with a chance of victory.

The current, reigning and defending European Champion is Gracie Squire (#29) who won the title on the fast Ipswich oval in 2025. Work and university commitments have kept Gracie away from the tracks for much of this season however she is scheduled to appear on September 27th and will have no plans to give up her title. Gracie is part of the famous Squire racing family and is also the granddaughter of former Brisca F1 World Champion Frankie Wainman (ex #212). Gracie is a fast and hard driver, you can expect to see her getting involved with the action throughout the meeting!
