from BriSCA V8 Writer Pete Savage!

The Brisca V8 Hotstox make their first of two appearances at Hednesford Raceway on May 17th as the drivers compete for World Championship Qualifying points in our meeting, kindly sponsored by Vale Plastering.

The Hotstox last appeared at Hednesford in July of 2024. The meeting was the debut for novices Frankie Burgess (#159) and Ben Allen (#477) who both impressed in their first ever Hotstox meetings and were not too far off the pace of the more experienced drivers. Heat 1 was also the 2024 running of the Incarace Gold Cup, with drivers drawing their grid positions from a hat in the pits prior to the meeting. Timmy Aldridge (#257) drew pole position and led the pack into what would be an explosive opening race of the day with plenty of bumper work. Stephen Young (#176) silenced any doubters by putting the bumper to good use and winning the Incarace Gold Cup. Heat 2 and the meeting final were won by veteran Andy Maynard (#152) who showed impressive pace in a dominant display around Hednesford. Matt Barnard (#69) won the Grand National.

May 17th should see the debut of World Champion Thomas Brighton’s (#329) new purpose built tarmac special. There will certainly be some excitement around this car, built by Thomas, his father Norm and ex V8 driver and current F1 star Karl Hawkins, and it will be worth a walk to the pits to see it close up. Thomas has made a strong start to the 2026 season and currently leads the National Points Championship by just 5 points. The first tarmac meeting final winner of this season Mike Lomax (#269) sits in second place and his fine form on both shale and tarmac may well have come as a surprise to some of his rivals in the early stages of the season.

The tarmac specialists will be out in force and hoping for success on the high speed Hednesford oval. The likes of Camey Dorrell (#262), Sophie Maynard (#154) and Evan Bullock (#110) will be among the favourites for success on May 17th. Youngster Ruby Lomax (#369) will make her first appearance at the venue in a Hotstox and will be hoping she can hold off some of the more experienced drivers such as Michael Boswell (#328) and Bryan Andrew (#355).

It looks set to be a great afternoon of racing at Hednesford Hills Raceway.
