National Pairs Championship Weekend

Meeting Preview...

from BriSCA V8 Writer Pete Savage!

The National Pairs championship is run annually at Skegness over two meetings, the unique event sees the drivers being paired according to grades. With the highest grade drivers being paired with the lowest. Heat 1 on the Sunday afternoon of 2025’s championship was won by Sophie Maynard (#154). Heat 2 was won by Skegness ace Michael Boswell, who had won the National Pairs title in 2024 with Camey Dorrell. Boswell and Dorrell were partnered once again in 2025. Heat 3 was claimed by Thomas Brighton (#329).

Sophie Maynard completed a brilliant heat and final double with a victory in the meeting final, fellow heat winners Boswell and Brighton completed the podium. White grader Elliot Fletcher (#282), who was celebrating his 18th birthday, won the Grand National with his partner Brighton claiming second place. The day’s racing ended with Maynard and Gilen Bullock (#10) leading the National Pairs championship and Brighton and Fletcher in second place.

Monday’s event saw another victory for Boswell in heat 1, his second of what would be a sensational four victories over the weekend. Boswell won six races during the course of the 2024 National Pairs weekend and clearly enjoys the event! Heat 2 saw Maynard claiming the chequered flag once again, her third win of the weekend. Heat 3 was won by Michael Boswell. The meeting final saw Boswell winning once again with Fletcher in second and Brighton third. Timmy Aldridge (#257) won the Grand National and last race of the weekend. When the points from the two meetings were added together it was Brighton and Fletcher who were crowned the 2025 champions.

Strong numbers are expected for the National Pairs weekend as the drivers will get their first track time of the season at this year’s World Final venue. Former National Points champion Jon Brown (#288) is set to appear and he’ll be keen to show that he is still one of the top drivers in the formula. With the likes of Dan Poole (#296), Gilen Bullock (#10) and Gracie Squire (#29) all having booked in for the meeting, there is sure to be plenty of bumper work towards the back of the pack amongst these higher graded drivers. Shane Geary (#478) showed good pace towards the end of the 2025 Gala Night meeting at Skegness once gremlins with the engine had been solved, he may well be a strong partner for one of the higher graded drivers to be paired with. Sam Knight (#202) continues to impress on both shale and tarmac and could also find himself in with a chance of the National Pairs title if he’s fortunate enough to be paired with the right driver.

It looks set to be an excellent bank holiday weekend for the Brisca V8 Hotstox
